A Game of Evolving Stories & Growing Dice

Ilderon Tales & Twists is a freeform narrative focused system. In terms of mechanics, players will have 3d4 they assign 1 to each stat. As they roll the max value of that die, the size of the die grows into a d6, d8, d10, d12, and d20. Each game is played as a series of Scenes & Moments. Moments represent an important point in time where a character has an ability to take a big action. 

When the moment requires resolving the mechanics of an action a player has taken, the game revolves around applying “traits” to actions. Players can buy abilities from the guidebook that either apply more traits to actions or improve how traits function. i.e. “When you take an action that has the dangerous trait, gain a bonus to your roll for that action..”

Some abilities you buy will permanently apply traits to everything you do.

System Support to Build Your Narratives

Tales & Twists doesn't handwave roleplay and the story as something just the gm will figure out and arbitrate. A hostess can take aspects of the story and present them as banners which player characters can mechanically interact with. Banners serve as narrative obstacles given form.

Tl:dr: Players build their own playbooks of actions and traits unique to them by buying from a point buy list in the rulebook. They roll a die that grows bigger the more they roll. The narrative mechanics encourage the players to problem solve in ways personalized to their characters.
